The Anki alternative for Spanish, no card-making required
Anki is popular for good reason: its spaced repetition system is excellent and fully configurable. The catch is that everything else is up to you: making cards, finding decks, checking their content and setting up add-ons. For Spanish, that means a lot of groundwork.
Recallo takes exactly that work off your hands. You get the same principle of spaced repetition and active recall, but with ready-made content made for Spanish. The dictionary, conjugations, example sentences and audio are already there.
Anki vs Recallo for Spanish
Both are built on spaced repetition. The difference is in the effort and the content:
| Feature | Recallo | Anki |
|---|---|---|
| Spaced repetition | ✓ | ✓ |
| Active recall (no multiple choice) | ✓ | ✓ |
| Ready-made Spanish dictionary (20,000+) | ✓ | Find or build decks yourself |
| Built-in conjugation practice | ✓ | Only via add-on or your own cards |
| Spanish audio included | ✓ | Add it yourself |
| Learning tips (e.g. por vs para) | ✓ | ✕ |
| Ready to go right away | ✓ | Setup needed |
| Where it runs | In the browser | Desktop and mobile (iOS app is paid) |
| Fully configurable, add-ons | Focused on Spanish | ✓ |
Anki is still the more flexible choice if you build your own decks for any subject. For Spanish without the setup work, Recallo gets you started faster.
Who should switch?
If you mainly use Anki for Spanish and are tired of maintaining decks, Recallo will feel familiar quickly: the same learning principle, but the content is curated and consistent.
If you want full control over every card and every algorithm setting, or you study several subjects at once, Anki remains a strong choice. Recallo is deliberately focused on Spanish.
Frequently asked questions
Can I import my Anki decks?+
No. Recallo works with its own curated dictionary instead of imported decks. The upside is that every card is consistent and checked.
Does Recallo use spaced repetition like Anki?+
Yes. Each card has its own review schedule, based on your answers. Cards that are due go into your daily batch automatically.
Is Recallo free like Anki?+
The Free plan is free forever, has no ads and includes all the core features. Unlike Anki, that also covers a ready-made dictionary and audio. Premium removes the limits on learning pace and tenses and costs €7.99 a month.
